ECC Affiliations:
It was in the late 8o’s that a few ‘veteran’ teams would travel to Bundaberg and Maryborough (Qld) annually to play in State titles.
Several of the players decided that a separate event catering for a wider spectrum of mature age basketballers was needed rather than be restricted by a state titles tag. In 1995 The East Coast Challenge was born. There would be no big prizes and the event would be based around a weekend of basketball and social interaction.
The first ECCs were held at Carina, followed by one event at Morayfield and then in 1999, Coinciding with the opening of the Cornubia sporting complex, the East Coast Challenge relocated to the new 4 court stadium in Logan City. Situated just 20 minutes south of Brisbane on the M1, and a short drive from the Gold Coast, the location has proven a winner and has drawn high praise from participants. The popularity of the event has seen an average 40 teams take part each year. Logan City has become host of many important sporting events and The East Coast Challenge is proud to be amongst those.
